Electricity infrastructure upgrades in Crippen Place
Thursday 17 September 2026
What we’re doing
We’re carrying out overnight works in the Adelaide CBD to support growing electricity demand and help future-proof electricity services. As part of this work, we will be carrying out electricity infrastructure upgrades along Morphett Street, Hindley Street and Crippen Place. Some noise will be associated with these works, and we’ll make every effort to minimise disruption to nearby residents, businesses and visitors.
How this affects you
Our civil contractor, Noone Civil Engineering, will begin work on Crippen Place and continue onto Morphett Street towards the intersection with Hindley Street.
Civil work will be completed as overnight works, between 7:30pm and 5:00am. These works will begin Monday 21 September and continue until Friday 30 October 2026.
Civil works will include:
- excavation and installation of conduits
- reinstatement of pavement and road structures.
Vacuum excavation will be used in some areas to protect underground services. This method can be noisy, so we aim to schedule the noisiest activities earlier in the night, whenever possible.
We have consulted with the council and received approval to work at these locations and times. Work has been scheduled as nightwork to help minimise impacts on businesses and the local community.
We plan to install the new underground cables in February 2027. We’ll continue to keep the community updated as more information becomes available.

Power outages
There are no planned power outages associated with preliminary civil works.
We will notify customers in advance of any power outages that may affect them in early 2027, usually with at least two weeks’ notice.
We encourage residents and businesses to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) on your electricity bill: sapowernetworks.co/SMSservice.
Traffic management
Temporary speed limits, partial closures and detours will be in place at times to keep road users and workers safe. Our traffic team is available on site to assist if needed.
Access to businesses and properties will be maintained at all times.
Thank you
We recognise that this work may be disruptive and appreciate your understanding. We will work to minimise impacts wherever possible. Please note that work hours and timing may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
