Whitmore Square and Wright Street, Adelaide CBD
January – February 2025
What we are doing
SA Power Networks is undertaking works to reinforce the power supply in the south-west area of the Adelaide Central Business District (CBD).
This work is essential to ensure reliability of supply for residents and businesses, as well as supporting future commercial and residential developments in this part of the CBD.
Works will involve installation of a precast service hole and laying conduit between the Whitmore Square substation and the north-eastern corner of the Whitmore Square parklands. See map below for further details.
Whitmore Square night works information
Night works - Friday 31 January 2025 to Monday 03 February 2025 between 7am and 7am
- Whitmore Square closed between Sabiston Lane and Sturt Street, detour via Wright Street / Sturt Street
- No left turn from Wright Street to Whitmore Square
- No right turn to Wright Street from Wright Court, Field Street, Market Street and Mill Street
- No left turn to Wright Street from Hobsons Place and Russell Street.

How this affects you
Civil works for the installation of a precast service hole are scheduled to take place from Friday 31 January 2025 to Monday 03 February 2025, with work occurring overnight between 7am and 7am until completed.
The remaining construction activities will be carried out during the day between 7am and 5pm starting on Monday 03 February 2025 until Tuesday 11 February 2025 excluding the weekend.
Traffic management including lane closures will be in place around our worksite with signposted detours in place. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained throughout our activities and we will contact those directly adjacent to our worksite in advance to discuss any concerns or requirements.
Vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained to properties as the works progress. We appreciate you observing speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controller direction when travelling through the area.
Power outages
We don’t expect any power interruptions during these works; however, we encourage anyone with a National Meter Identifier (NMI) on their electricity bill to sign up for updates to receive free notification of power outages and future events at your property.

Construction impacts
There will be noise and vibration, and possibly dust, associated with these works from excavation equipment and other heavy machinery and vehicles. Our crews will minimise impacts as much as possible.
