Powerline upgrades in Mount Barker

Wednesday 22 April 2026

What we’re doing

We’re working on the Mount Barker electricity network to support growing demand and improve reliability. This work includes installing new underground cables, replacing sections of overhead powerlines, and installing several new and replacement poles.

Underground work will include installing new cable from our substation on Flaxley Road through the road reserve to the Daw Avenue / Edward Street corner. We will also install new and replacement powerlines along Daw Avenue, Princes Road and Albert Road through to Wellington Road, including installing new pole footings where required.

How this affects you

Our contractor, Equipped Civil, will be working along Daw Avenue, Flaxley Road, Princes Road and Albert Road. Work will begin in late April and involve excavation for underground cable routes and pole footings. Most civil excavation will occur between 7am and 4pm, with some night work (8pm–5am) on Flaxley Road to minimise traffic impacts.

Vacuum excavation will be used in some areas to protect underground services, however this method can be noisy. We apologise for any disruption.

Our powerline crews will follow with cable installation and pole replacement works which are planned for mid‑2026.

Power outages

We will notify customers in advance of any power outages that will affect them, usually with at least two weeks’ notice.

We encourage residents and businesses to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) on your electricity bill: sapowernetworks.co/SMSservice.

Where customer services are currently located at poles that will be replaced, we will transfer these services to the newly installed pole at no cost to customers. Our electrical contractor will contact affected customers directly if any connection changes or property access are required.

Traffic management

Temporary speed limits, partial closures and detours will be in place at times to keep road users and workers safe. Our traffic team is available on site to assist if needed.

Thank you

We recognise that this work may be disruptive and appreciate your understanding. We will work to minimise impacts wherever possible as we improve the electricity network for the Mount Barker community. Please note that work hours and timing may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
