Notification of works

Undergrounding powerlines on Adelaide Road, Echunga (Stage 3)

Monday 3 August 2026

What we’re doing

SA Power Networks is continuing work to underground powerlines along Adelaide Road, Echunga. This is the third and final stage of the Mount Barker District Council's streetscaping initiative.

How this affects you

We will be undergrounding some of our existing powerlines and removing Stobie poles along Meadows, Angus, Church Hill and Adelaide Roads, and High and West Streets in Echunga.

We will be removing 11 Stobie poles, replacing 4 existing Stobie poles and installing new ground level electrical equipment to support the underground network.

Our contractor, Mahcon Civil, will commence excavation works on Wednesday 5 August. We expect this will be completed by the end of September 2026. This work involves excavation for underground cable routes and pole footings where required.

We have consulted with the council to temporarily close the road while we complete our work.

Vacuum excavation will be used in some areas to protect underground services, however, this method can be noisy. We apologise for any disruption.

Our powerline crews will install the new poles in September 2026. We will follow with underground cable and electrical equipment installation from late October 2026.

Customers connected to our existing overhead network will have their supply transferred to the new underground network in early November 2026. Our electrical contractor A&W Electric will contact affected customers directly if any connection changes or property access are required. There is no charge to customers for this work.

Once the new equipment is in place, our crews and external contractor Distro-Tex will remove the existing equipment.

All work will be completed during the day between 7am and 4pm.

Traffic management

Temporary speed limits, partial road closures and detours will be in place at times to keep road users and workers safe. Our traffic team will be available on site to assist if needed.
