Notification of works

Undergrounding Powerlines in Port Adelaide

Thursday 4 May 2026

What we’re doing

We’re carrying out work in Port Adelaide to support the City of Port Adelaide Enfield’s Streetscape Upgrade Project.

How this affects you

We will be undergrounding some of our existing powerlines and removing Stobie poles along St Vincent and Fisher Streets. We will be removing 15 Stobie poles, installing 2 new Stobie poles and new ground level electrical equipment to support the underground network.

Our contractor, TRON Civil Contracting, will be working along St Vincent and Fisher Streets. Civil work will start on Tuesday 9 June and be completed by the end of July 2026. This will involve excavation for underground cable routes, pole footings where required, and the installation of underground electrical equipment.

These works along St Vincent Street will be completed between 9am and 4pm to minimise traffic impacts during the morning (7:30–9:00am) and evening (4:30–6:00pm) peak hours.

Trenching along Fisher Street will be completed between 7am and 4pm on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 July 2026. We have consulted with the council to temporarily close the road while we complete our work.

Vacuum excavation will be used in some areas to protect underground services, however, this method can be noisy. We apologise for any disruption.

Our powerline crews will install 2 new poles in total along St Vincent and Fisher Streets on Thursday 25 June 2026. We will complete this work at night between 10pm and 6am. We will follow with underground cable installation in August 2026. This work will be completed during the day between 7:30am and 4pm.

Customers connected to our existing overhead network will have their supply transferred to the new underground network in August and September 2026. Our electrical contractor will contact affected customers directly if any connection changes or property access are required. There is no charge to customers for this work.

All pole replacement work will be completed by the end of October 2026.

Traffic management

Temporary speed limits, partial closures and detours will be in place at times to keep road users and workers safe. Our traffic team is available on site to assist if needed.

Power outages

Customers subscribed to our free SMS/email notification service will typically receive two weeks’ notice, and we aim to provide even more notice where possible.

For customers not registered for the SMS/email service, we will send notification cards via post, though delivery times may vary.

We encourage anyone not already subscribed to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) found on your electricity bill. For assistance, call us on 13 12 61 during business hours.

Subscribing is a convenient way to stay informed about planned and unplanned power outages, as well as other service updates.
