Undergrounding Powerlines in Salisbury
Tuesday 26 May 2026
What we are doing
We’re carrying out work in Salisbury from 31 May to the end of August 2026 to support the City of Salisbury’s Centre Renewal Project.
For more information, please visit The City of Salisbury’s website at: Salisbury City Centre renewal vision comes to life with $200 million redevelopment • City of Salisbury
How this affects you
We will be undergrounding some of our existing 11,000 volt powerlines and removing Stobie poles along Wiltshire and Church Street. Our underground works will also include installing new low voltage cables. We will be removing 10 existing Stobie poles, installing 2 new Stobie poles and ground level electrical equipment to support the underground network.
Trenching along Wiltshire and Church Street have already been completed to support the installation of underground electrical equipment.
Customers connected to our existing overhead network will have their supply transferred to the new underground network in July 2026. Our contractor A & W Electrical will contact customers directly if we need to change their connection. There is no charge to customers for this work.
All work will occur at night between 7pm and 6am to minimise traffic, community and business impacts.
Traffic management
Traffic management will be in place while our crews and contractors are working with temporary speed limits, and signposted partial road closures, or detours for the safety of workers, road users and pedestrians. If you need assistance, please ask our traffic safety team.
We will work to minimise disruption as much as possible and appreciate the understanding of those affected by this work.
Power outages
We will notify customers in advance of any power outages that may affect them in July 2026.
Customers subscribed to our free SMS/email notification service will typically receive two weeks’ notice, and we aim to provide even more notice where possible.
For customers not registered for the SMS/email service, we will send notification cards via post, though delivery times may vary.
We encourage anyone not already subscribed to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) found on your electricity bill. For assistance, call us on 13 12 61 during business hours.
Subscribing is a convenient way to stay informed about planned and unplanned power outages, as well as other service updates.
