Seven aspiring engineers from Flinders University have started their journey with SA Power Networks, joining the company's Engineering Undergraduate Program for a 20-week industry placement designed to provide hands-on experience in South Australia's evolving energy sector. 

The students commenced the winter intake of the program in July, taking part in an induction that introduced them to the business, its people and the important role SA Power Networks plays in delivering reliable electricity and supporting the transition to a cleaner energy future. 

As one of South Australia's largest employers, SA Power Networks offers undergraduate engineers the opportunity to work on real projects, develop practical skills and gain valuable industry experience while applying the knowledge they've developed through their university studies. The program is designed to help students build professional networks, gain exposure to a professional engineering environment and explore future career pathways. 

Throughout their placement, the students will work alongside experienced engineers, graduates and leaders from across the business, contributing to meaningful projects and gaining insight into the diverse opportunities available within the electricity distribution industry. The structured program provides mentoring, formal feedback and practical learning experiences that complement their academic studies. 

Through our partnership with the Australian Power Institute, students will also complete a learning journal and take part in professional development throughout their placement, helping them reflect on their experiences, build their capabilities and make the most of their time in industry. 

The Engineering Undergraduate Program is one of SA Power Networks' key pathway initiatives, helping develop the next generation of engineering talent and providing students with a valuable opportunity to experience the industry first-hand. For many participants, it can also serve as a pathway to future graduate opportunities within the business.
