Building pathways into trades: SA Power Networks partners with Empowered Women In Trades to inspire the next generation
We're committed to building a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve.
Creating more opportunities in the energy industry
Through our ongoing partnership with Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT), we're helping more women and gender-diverse people explore rewarding careers in the energy industry and discover the opportunities available through apprenticeships.
As an EWIT Alliance Member, SA Power Networks works alongside organisations across Australia to create greater awareness of trade careers, encourage broader participation and open doors for people who may not have previously considered a future in the industry.
Sharing real career stories
Earlier this month, Apprentice Field Officer Nikita Spice and Operations Supervisor Reid August featured on the EWIT Podcast, sharing their experiences and insights into working in the electricity industry.
The episode highlighted the variety of career opportunities available at SA Power Networks, the importance of supportive workplace cultures and the rewarding nature of careers that help power South Australia's future. By sharing authentic career journeys, the podcast encourages more women to explore pathways into trades and the energy sector.

Hands-on experience at the EWIT Immersion Program
In July, we welcomed 10 participants to our Angle Park Training Centre for the annual EWIT Immersion Program – a hands-on experience designed to provide a practical introduction to trade careers.
Throughout the day, participants learned about apprenticeship pathways, received application advice from the Talent and Pathways team, heard directly from apprentices and employees, and took part in interactive activities led by the Pathways and Learning Design & Delivery team.
They also met representatives from SA Power Networks’ Powerline and Electrical Services teams, gaining first-hand insight into the skills, teamwork and challenges involved in maintaining South Australia's electricity network.
The enthusiasm and engagement from participants demonstrated growing interest in trade careers among women and gender-diverse people. Several attendees registered interest in work experience opportunities before the day had even concluded, signalling a strong desire to continue exploring careers in the industry.
Building confidence and career pathways
Feedback from participants highlighted the value of being able to try hands-on tasks in a supportive environment while learning directly from people already working in the field.
Attendees praised the welcoming atmosphere, practical learning experiences and the generosity of employees who shared their knowledge and career insights throughout the day. Many highlighted the encouragement they received from trainers and staff, with all participants expressing interest in applying for an apprenticeship opportunity.
Initiatives such as the EWIT Immersion Program play an important role in broadening participation in trades and helping to build the skilled workforce needed to support South Australia's energy future. They also reflect SA Power Networks' commitment to creating inclusive career pathways where people can learn, grow and thrive.
