Hindley Street, Adelaide CBD

What we’re doing

We're undertaking works along Hindley Street, between King William Street and Morphett Street to help plan for future electricity demand and maintain power reliability in the Adelaide CBD. This includes digging small, targeted holes to locate existing underground services, and excavating narrow trenches to inspect underground electricity infrastructure in the work area.

How this affects you

Our civil contractor, Fleurieu Subsurface, will be working along Hindley Street, between King William and Morphett Street to complete slot trenching and potholing work.

Vacuum excavation will be used in some areas to protect underground services, however this method can be noisy. We apologise for any disruption.

Works are expected to commence on 16 August 2026 and continue for approximately 10 weeks.

We have consulted with key stakeholders and the council and received approval to work between the following locations and timeframes:

• During the day between King William Street and Morphett Street, Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am and 5pm.
• Intermittent night works may be required throughout the project.

Where night work is required, we will schedule the noisiest activities earlier in the evening wherever possible.

Our contractor, Oxley Communications, will work closely with customers in advance and contact those directly adjacent to our worksites to discuss any concerns or requirements. They will ensure key stakeholders, local businesses, residents, commuters, and the wider community are kept informed about timing, traffic changes, timing of works, impacts around work zones and general construction activities undertaken from August 2026.

Power outages

There are no power outages associated with this work.

Traffic management

Temporary speed limits, partial closures and detours will be in place at times to keep road users and workers safe. Our traffic team is available on site to assist if needed.

The following traffic arrangements will be in place:

• Pedestrian access along footpaths will be maintained.
• Access to businesses and properties will be maintained.
• Stop/Slow traffic management will be in place during the works.
• Some parking spaces will be temporarily unavailable. Affected permit holders will be contacted directly to arrange temporary relocation.
