Lower Mitcham Substation Upgrade

August - October 2024

What we are doing

Important upgrades are about to start at the Lower Mitcham Substation to improve the reliability of the local electricity supply. The work involves removing and replacing an existing transformer and associated electrical infrastructure.

How this affects you

Work will begin from Monday 26 August and continue until early October 2024.

Construction activities will generally take place between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday with intermittent works being undertaken on weekends.

Work hours and project dates may vary slightly due to weather, or other events outside of our control, but will comply with council restrictions.

The majority of works will be undertaken at the substation with the exception of the transportation of the new transformer to the substation and removal of the existing one. The substation is located on Rosemont Street, Colonel Light Gardens.

Vegetation Management:

To ensure no damage is caused to street trees during the relocation of the transformers, SA Power Networks has engaged the City of Mitcham’s arborist to oversee minor vegetation pruning. This pruning will occur on Wednesday 28 August 2024, along Denman Terrace and Rosemont Street.

Traffic and Parking Impact:

Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Rosemont Street, Denman Terrace (between Wattlebury Road and Rosemont Street), and the approaches to the intersection of Kent Road, Sturt Avenue, and East Parkway on Thursday 29 August and Friday 30 August 2024, between 9am and 1pm, during the transformer relocation.

Traffic management will be in place with temporary speed restrictions in the vicinity of our works to ensure safety of the community and our work crews.
