Port Victoria Low Voltage overhead powerline replacement
What we’re doing
We’re replacing 1.8km of corroded Low Voltage (LV) powerlines in Port Victoria to improve local power reliability. We will also replace 19 Stobie poles and install three new Stobie poles along with three new pole-mounted transformers.
The work will take place along Davies Terrace, Edwardes Terrace, Kuhn Terrace, Passat Street and Rogers Terrace. Some of the Stobie poles will be relocated slightly which we have discussed directly with land owners where this may affect them.
How this affects you
From early April through most of May, our civil contractors will be laying the foundations for the 22 Stobie poles. Our powerline crews will be on-site from May until late August installing the new Stobie poles and replacing the powerline.
Some private consumer electricity connections will need to be altered as part of this project. There is no cost to customers for this work.
‘Consumer services’ include overhead services from pole to fascia, or ‘over to under’ services starting at a black service fuse box on the Stobie pole, then underground to the meter box. In general, SA Power Networks maintains the overhead equipment; for an over to under service, our network ends at the black service fuse box on the Stobie pole, and the wiring and conduit from that point to the meter box is the responsibility of the landowner, including where it travels beneath Council or public land.
If we alter the consumer side of an over to under service as part of our maintenance program, we will issue the landowner with an Electrical Compliance Certificate on completion.
We have already visited most customers who will have alterations to their private electricity connections. Our contracted registered electrician will also contact any customer affected in advance to arrange property access.
There may be intermittent restrictions to driveway access throughout the project. Our crews and traffic management team will work closely with those affected to minimise any inconvenience. We will let customers know when we need their help to keep the street clear of vehicles so we have clear access for our work, and to avoid potential damage to vehicles.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians, road users, and our crews there will be periodic reduced speed limits, diversions, and potential lane closures along the roads affected.
Power outages
Customers may experience multiple power outages while we’re completing our powerline works which we will schedule as day work (between 8am and 3pm). If you are impacted by a power outage, we will contact you directly.
We send SMS/emails to subscribed customers affected by power outages two weeks in advance, at which time the outage map will also be published on our website. We post cards to non-subscribed customers however there may be delays with the postal service.
If you do not already receive free notifications about your power, you can sign up for updates via our website, or call us on 13 12 61 for assistance. You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from your electricity bill to subscribe.
Construction impacts
There will be noise, vibration and possibly dust associated with this work from excavation equipment, and other heavy machinery and vehicles. Our crews and contractors will minimise impacts as much as possible, however we apologise for any inconvenience.
