Notification of works

Undergrounding powerlines (Stage 1), Adelaide Road, Echunga

Project update

15 April 2025

From Wednesday 16 April to Friday 13 June 2025, we will install and energise the new underground cables, install the new Stobie pole, and our contract licensed electrician will be modifying 23 private electricity connections along Adelaide Road to connect to the new underground network.

These works are scheduled as day works between 8am and 3pm. We will be returning later in the year to remove the redundant overhead network; these dates are still yet to be confirmed.

We will minimise noise and other disruptions as much as possible however there will be noise and potential dust associated with our works. Once again there may be intermittent restrictions to driveway access during our works. Our crews and traffic management teams will continue to work closely with those affected to minimise any inconvenience. Traffic management will be in place when our crews are on site.

We will notify any customers affected by power outages in advance. Again, we encourage anyone not already subscribed to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from their electricity bill which is helpful to get updates related to planned and unplanned power outages, as well as other disruptions such as night works or noise.

If you have any questions about our work, please contact Kyron in the Customer Communications team on 08 7326 2924.

March – June 2025

What we’re doing

SA Power Networks is working in partnership with the Mount Barker District Council to underground powerlines along Adelaide Road, Echunga to support local economic development. We are proud to partner with the local and State government in beautifying significant areas through councils’ streetscaping initiatives.

Council will be removing some trees on Adelaide Road (odd numbered side of street under current powerlines) before we trench to install conduit and new underground cables. We will permanently remove 14 Stobie poles between 1 -19 Adelaide Road and install a replacement Stobie pole in front of 1-3 Adelaide Road.

Customers currently connected from the overhead network will be connected to the new underground service. Finally, we will remove the overhead powerlines and services along the affected section of Adelaide Road.

How this affects you

Civil work will commence on 3 March and should be completed by the end of April 2025. This will involve trenching and installing footings for the new Stobie poles. Work dates may vary due to weather conditions or unforeseen events outside of our control.

Some private electricity connections will need to be altered as part of this project and will be transferred to the new underground network. There is no cost to customers for this work. Our contracted electrician will let you know in advance if this affects your property, to arrange access, and to advice the dates of any work.

There may be intermittent restrictions to driveway access throughout the project. Our crews and traffic management team will work closely with those affected to minimise any inconvenience. We will let customers know when we need their help to keep the street clear of vehicles, so we have clear access for our work, and to avoid potential damage to vehicles. To ensure the safety of pedestrians and our crews there will be periodic reduced speed limits, diversions and potential lane closures along Adelaide Road.

Power outages

Some customers will experience power outages during these works. If your property is affected, we will send SMS/ emails to subscribed customers typically two weeks in advance. We post cards to non-subscribed customers however there may be delays with the postal service.

If you do not already receive free notifications about your power, you can sign up for updates, or call us on 13 12 61 for assistance. You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from your electricity bill to subscribe.

Construction Impacts

There will be noise, vibration and possibly dust associated with this work from excavation equipment, and other heavy machinery and vehicles. Our crews will minimise impacts as much as possible, however we apologise for any inconvenience.
