We are proud to announce the winners of the 2025 Apprentice of the Year awards - an annual celebration of the remarkable talent, commitment, and growth shown by our apprentices across every stage of their journey with SA Power Networks.

These awards recognise individuals who go above and beyond – demonstrating strong technical capabilities, leadership, teamwork, and a shared commitment to safety and service. Each winner has not only excelled in their trade but made a meaningful impact on their teams and our broader business.

1st Year Apprentice of the Year – Asha Bell

Asha has made a stellar start to her career at SA Power Networks, earning the 2025 First Year Apprentice of the Year title. From day one, Asha has stood out for her initiative, strong work ethic, and her natural ability to build relationships.

Asha quickly established herself as a proactive and safety-conscious team member – actively contributing to hazard identification, applying feedback to diverse tasks, and consistently exceeding expectations for her year level. She is known for her positive energy, professionalism, and maturity, making her a trusted presence among both teammates and customers.

Beyond her technical growth, Asha has already taken on mentoring responsibilities – setting up a service preparation area at her depot and helping others navigate their learning journey. Her initiative, commitment to development, and collaborative spirit make her a worthy recipient of this year’s award.

2nd Year Apprentice of the Year – Ben Bruecher

Second year apprentice Ben Bruecher continues to impress with his maturity, leadership, and strong focus on safety. Already a qualified electrician, Ben brings a wealth of experience to his role, serving as a Health and Safety Representative and Mental Health First Aider at the Angaston depot.

Ben has played a key role in implementing the Fatal Hazards Critical Controls program and supports his colleagues through process changes with clarity and calmness. His technical knowledge is matched by his willingness to step up for his team – whether that’s assisting with fault work, integrating international recruits, or organising morale-boosting events.

Ben’s dedication extends beyond the worksite, having provided first aid during an emergency, mentored peers, and improved systems for new fleet assets. His combination of reliability, compassion, and professionalism makes him a standout and a deserving recipient of the 2025 Second Year Apprentice of the Year award.

His contributions to initiatives such as improving the Low Voltage manual and daily hazard discussions have enhanced safety across the board.

He regularly mentors apprentices, volunteers in his community, and has been praised for stepping up during storm events and high-pressure situations. Jake is a trusted voice in his depot – someone colleagues turn to for guidance and support. His efforts to foster a learning environment using tools like the LV test board show his deep commitment to both personal growth and the development of others.

Jake is not just a valued apprentice – he’s a leader in the making, and this award recognises the impact he’s already having across our business.

4th Year Apprentice of the Year – Brodee Williams

This year’s Playford Medallist, Brodee Williams has developed into a respected leader and ambassador for SA Power Networks. Based at the Kangaroo Island depot, Brodee exemplifies ownership, accountability, and community spirit.

Brodee has led depot initiatives such as the Fatal Hazard and Critical Controls project and serves as a Switching Mentor Representative and Local User Expert – roles that showcase his leadership and commitment to safety and learning. He consistently receives outstanding training appraisals and drives continuous improvement through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Outside of work, Brodee is a visible and engaged community member, holding leadership roles in local sports clubs and proudly promoting SA Power Networks wherever he goes.
