11,000 Volt (11kV) powerline and Stobie pole replacement at Karoonda Highway, Loxton

What we’re doing

We’re replacing a section of our 11,000 Volt (11kV) overhead powerlines and multiple Stobie poles to improve power reliability in the Loxton area ahead of the summer peak season. The replacement works will begin at the Pyap Substation on Karoonda Highway and progress north along the highway and finishing adjacent the Bookpurnong Terrace fork in Loxton.

How this affects you

Our civil contractor has installed footings for new Stobie poles, finishing in July this year.

On Tuesday 26 August our crews commence powerline works, which will involve installing the new Stobie poles and 11kV powerlines along the roads mentioned. Most of the new Stobie poles will be immediately adjacent an existing pole, and we will remove the old pole.

Most of the poles being replaced are located off-road on the verge of paddocks, on the right-hand side of the highway. We will use access tracks on customers’ properties wherever possible and have consulted with the relevant landowners regarding the use of these tracks to access our equipment.

Our crews will be working on-site Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm. We expect the project to be completed by the end of October.

We follow biosecurity procedures as well as general courtesy for accessing private property such as leaving gates how we find them, and being mindful of stock or pets. You can read more about this on our website via https://sapowernetworks.co/Property-Access  or search our website for ‘property access’.

For the safety of our crews, traffic management including reduced speeds will be in place when our crews are working close to the road, so you may experience short delays.

Power outages

Some customers will experience power outages during this period; if you are impacted by a power outage we will contact you directly.

We typically send SMS/emails to subscribed customers affected by power outages two weeks in advance, at which time the outage map will also be published on our website. We post cards to non-subscribed customers, however there may be delays with the postal service.

If you do not already receive free notifications about your power, you can sign up for outage notifications via our website, or call us for assistance on 13 12 61. You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from your electricity bill to subscribe.

Construction impacts

There will be excavation equipment, heavy machinery, and vehicles in the area. Our crews and contractors will minimise any disruptions as much as possible.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out this important work. Our team has worked hard to plan the project, conducting network load studies, making design changes to minimise power outages, and carefully scheduling the work to minimise community impacts as much as possible, such as avoiding school holidays. We will have extra crews assisting to compete the work is the shortest practical time frame.

We appreciate your support and apologise for any inconvenience you may experience.
