East Terrace 66,000 Volt (66kV) – investigation works
Project Update - 8 August 2025
We are entering into the final stage of upgrading the local electricity distribution network, supplied from the East Terrace substation.
In this stage we will install and connect the new 33,000 Volt (33kV) underground cables in pre-prepared trenches along Frome, Pirie and Grenfell Streets.
We will begin on Sunday 10 August 2025 and expect to finish by the end of the month, weather permitting.
Night works are scheduled between 8pm and 5am Sunday nights to Friday mornings. Traffic management, including lane closures, speed restrictions and detours will be in place for the safety of workers and the public. See map below for more details.
We will assist locals to access their driveways or parking areas.
We do not need to interrupt power for these works.

We are continuing upgrades to the local electricity distribution network, supplied from the East Terrace substation.
Stage one of the project is now complete, and we will continue with stage two which involves civil excavation and the installation of new 33,000 Volt (33kV) underground cables along Grenfell Street between Frome Road and East Terrace. See map for further details.
Construction activities will take place between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday (road restrictions only 9am to 4pm).
Early enabling works began on Wednesday 4 June 2025. The main construction works start from Tuesday 10 June 2025, continuing through to late August 2025, weather permitting.
We don't expect any power interruptions for these works.

17 April 2025
Our investigation works have been completed and we will now proceed to undertake essential maintenance on our East Terrace substation, located on East Terrace between Grenfell and Pirie Street in Adelaide. Work is scheduled between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday from Monday 28 April 2025 until June 2025, with occasional Sunday work if needed.
We will minimise noise and other disruptions as much as possible however there will be noise, vibration and potential dust associated with our works. Traffic management will be in place when our crews are on site.
We do not expect any power interruptions during these works. However, we encourage anyone not already subscribed to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from their electricity bill. We send updates for both planned, and unplanned, outages (eg storms), and for projects that may have some disruption to you.

28 March 2025
SA Power Networks is conducting investigation works on East Terrace from Friday 28 March 2025 to Saturday 29 March 2025, with work occurring between the hours of 7am to 4pm.
These investigation works will be within the footpath along East Terrace between Grenfell Street and Pirie Street.
There will be no traffic lane closures associated with these works, but speed restrictions will be in place to ensure safety for our workers onsite. There will be pedestrian detours in place as per the below map.

Night works – August 2025
- Sudholz Place closure between Frome Street and Flinders Street, 8pm - 5am Sunday nights to Friday mornings
- No access to Sudholz Place from Frome Street.
- Shared user path to be closed along Sudholz Place.
- Pedestrian detours will be in place.
Grenfell Street
Night works: early- to mid-August 2025
- Single lane closure along Grenfell Street between East Terrace and Frome Street (West bound) 8pm - 5am Sunday nights to Friday mornings
- No access to Grenfell Street from East Terrace (public transport excepted)
- Speed restrictions along East Terrace and Grenfell Street for the duration of work
- Access to Tam-O-shanter Place still possible; our traffic control crew can assist
Frome Street
Night works: mid- to late- August 2025
- Single lane closure along Frome Street, southbound between Grenfell Street and Pirie Street between 8pm - 5am Sunday nights to Friday mornings.
