Poltalloch Road powerline replacement and reliability improvement
What we’re doing
We're making some important changes to your local power network as some of the powerlines and other equipment are affected by corrosion. We’ll be installing 46 new Stobie poles along a 7km stretch from 235 Poltalloch Road (close to Pilthung Lagoon) moving west towards Albert Passage, replacing poles which are currently off road and more difficult to access for inspections, maintenance or repair. We will also be installing new 11,000 Volt (11kV) conductor (powerlines).
Corrosion can affect power reliability. By replacing targeted equipment, we're making sure you can continue to rely on a safe and reliable electricity supply.
How this affects you
Our civil contractor, Equipped Civil will begin construction works in early-July, aiming for completion by the end of August 2025. These works will include laying foundations for the new Stobie poles along Poltalloch Road.
Our powerline crews will follow from August through to December 2025 installing the poles and powerline. We expect to return in June 2026 to remove the old poles, and will confirm the dates and access requirements with relevant landowners.
Power outages
Customers may experience two power outages as part of this work.
We will send SMS/emails to subscribed customers affected by the power outage two weeks in advance, at which time the outage map will also be published on our website. We post cards to non-subscribed customers however there may be delays with the postal service.
If you do not already receive free notifications about your power, you can sign up for updates via our website, or call us on 13 13 66 for assistance. You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from your electricity bill to subscribe.
Construction impacts
When our crews are on site there will be excavation equipment, heavy machinery, and other vehicles operating in the area. To ensure safety, traffic management measures will be in place which include reduced speed limits and rolling lane closures. We will actively manage dust throughout the works.
We have approval from a local landowner to use part of their property to store our equipment to ensure this project is completed as quickly as possible, and we will engage directly with anyone impacted by private property access at any time of our work. Our website has more information about what customers can expect of us when on their land.
We have vegetation and cultural advisors working with us in the planning and delivery of this important project.
