Portal Updates: REX becomes read-only from 1 August

We want to provide an important update about our new Portal and our existing system, REX.

Alterations recently went live in our new Portal. This means all minor connections services are now available in one place, giving customers, electricians, retailers and meter providers a simpler way to submit, view, track and manage connection-related requests.

Over 70% of registered electricians are already using the new Portal to raise connection jobs, and we encourage all remaining users to start using it before REX becomes read-only.

Now that we’ve reached this important milestone, we will begin phasing out the ability for electricians to raise new requests in REX. From 1 August, REX will become read‑only. You will still be able to log in and view any existing requests, however new requests will need to be submitted through the new Portal.

If you raised a request in REX and your job is ready for appointment, there is no change to the process – where able to, you can either book this job in via the portal or please call us to make the booking.

Feedback remains an important part of how the Portal continues to improve. If you use the Portal, we encourage you to keep sharing what is working well and where the experience could be clearer or easier to use.

You can access the new Portal here: https://portal.sapowernetworks.com.au/

We’ll continue to update our online information and support materials as more users move to the Portal and as we continue improving the experience based on feedback.

eCoC visibility & ATC retirement for new connections

As previously communicated, Authority to Connect (ATC) forms are no longer accepted for New Service Provisions from 1 June. This is the first step in retiring the ATC and moving to the electronic Certificate of Compliance (eCoC) for new connections.

To support this transition, we have been working closely with the Office of the Technical Regulator (OTR) to support electronic visibility of eCoCs for connection jobs. You may have already seen a new field called ‘SAPN REX/Portal Request ID number’ when submitting an eCoC through the OTR eCoC Portal.

Over the coming months, where the correct REX/Portal Request ID number has been included when submitting an eCoC, the eCoC number will also become visible in the SAPN Portal against the relevant connection job. This will make it available for our connection crews to view on site.

Once integration is in place, the benefits for industry will include:

  • reduced reliance on paper-based forms
  • faster submission and processing, saving time and streamlining workflows
  • improved compliance aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practice

Further information will be provided once the integration between OTR and SA Power Networks systems has been completed.

Our next stage of Portal development

While minor connections services are now available in the Portal, we are also preparing for the next stage of development. The next feature in development is the Negotiated Connections (>100 Amps) application form, which will allow customers to submit connection requests directly through the Portal and provide a central place to view and manage requests. In the first release, customers will be able to:

  • View all new requests submitted through the Portal on a personalised dashboard
  • Access the details of each application
  • Receive a notification when their request has been assigned to a Project Officer

As Portal development progresses, additional features will be introduced to give you greater visibility of your project’s status, progress, and upcoming actions.

The new application form will go live in August. From that date, all Negotiated Connections (>100 Amps) applications will be submitted through the Portal.

If you’d like to stay updated on development or participate in user feedback sessions, please email PortalFeedback@sapowernetworks.com.au.
