Notification of works
Electricity infrastructure upgrades in Gouger Street
What we’re doing
We’re carrying out overnight works in the Adelaide CBD to support growing electricity demand and help future-proof underground electricity services. As part of this work, we will be carrying out electricity infrastructure upgrades along Gouger Street, between King William Street and Morphett Street. Some noise will be associated with these works, and we’ll make every effort to minimise disruption to nearby residents, businesses and visitors.
How this affects you
Our civil contractor, Noone Civil Engineering, will begin work along Gouger Street, between Field and Market Streets in early August.
Civil works will include:
- excavation and installation of conduits
- reinstatement of pavement and road structures.
All works are expected to be completed by the end of August and will be done over three construction stages to help minimise impacts on the community and customers.
Vacuum excavation will be used in some areas to protect underground services, however this method can be noisy. We apologise for any disruption.
We have consulted with key stakeholders and the council and received approval to work at the following locations and times:
Gouger and Field Street intersection
- Sunday 9 August to Friday 14 August 2026
- Sunday 16 August to Friday 21 August 2026
Adelaide Central Market and U Park Entrance
- Sunday 23 August to Friday 28 August 2026
Work in front of the Adelaide Central Market and U Park Entrance has been scheduled in this timeframe to help minimise impacts on market deliveries and access to car parking. Temporary traffic management will be in place in this area, with access maintained wherever possible.
Our powerline crews will also be working along Gouger Street to support our civil contractor with these upgrades.
Most civil excavations and work will occur between 7:30pm and 5:00am.
We will aim to schedule the noisiest activities earlier in the evening wherever possible.

Power outages
We will notify customers in advance of any power outages that will affect them, usually with at least two weeks’ notice.
We encourage residents and businesses to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) on your electricity bill: sapowernetworks.co/SMSservice.
Traffic management
Temporary speed limits, partial closures and detours will be in place at times to keep road users and workers safe. Our traffic team is available on site to assist if needed.
Access to businesses and properties along Gouger will be maintained at all times.
Thank you
We recognise that this work may be disruptive and appreciate your understanding. We will work to minimise impacts wherever possible. Please note that work hours and timing may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
We’ll continue to keep the community updated as more information becomes available.
