Insulator and Stobie pole replacement Meningie and Salt Creek
Project update – Wednesday 11 February 2026
We are back continuing our work in Meningie to replace the targeted Stobie poles and pole-top insulators after an unexpected delay at the end of 2025.
Our powerline crews will be working along Fiebig, Bronze Wing and Moonee Hills Roads, and along the Princess Highway this month. We now expect to complete all work by August 2026.
We will continue to do the work during daylight hours between 8am and 4pm.
For the safety of crews and members of the public, traffic management will be in place when crews are working close to roads.
We will minimise disruption as much as possible and appreciate the continued patience of customers and the community affected by this work.
What we’re doing
The Coorong is a high corrosion area. We are replacing multiple Stobie poles and pole-top insulators along a 42km section from Meningie to Salt Creek to improve power reliability in the area.
How this affects you
Schwarz Civil, will start civil work on our behalf from Monday 18 August, which includes laying the foundations for the Stobie poles.
Enerven is our powerline contractor for this project. They begin work at the end of August which includes replacing the targeted Stobie poles (adjacent the existing poles) and insulators. The insulators are more resistant to the effects of salt build-up which can contribute to power outages after extended very dry conditions.
The 19,000 Volt network in this area generally crosses private property. There are statutory easements which allow us to access our network equipment for inspections and maintenance. We have been trying to reach all relevant landowners directly so we can minimise any disruptions, and to arrange access if it isn’t clear. If you have any particular concerns, please contact Natalie on the contact details listed below.
We follow bio security procedures as well as general courtesy for accessing private property such as leaving gates how we find them, and being mindful of stock or pets. You can read more about this on our website via sapowernetworks.co/Property-Access or search ‘property access’
For the safety of our crews, traffic management including reduced speeds and rolling lane closures will be in place when our crews are working close to the road, so you may experience short delays.
Most of the poles we are replacing do not have consumer services on them. If there is any change to the electrical service to a house, shed, pump or other private installation, we will let you know in advance.
Work hours and dates are subject to change due to weather, site conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Power outages
Some customers will experience power outages during this period; if you are impacted by a power outage we will contact you directly.
We will send SMS/emails to subscribed customers affected by power outages two weeks in advance, at which time the information will also be published on the outage map on our website. We post cards to non-subscribed customers however there may be delays with the postal service.
If you do not already receive free notifications about your power, you can sign up for updates via our website, or call us for assistance. You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from your electricity bill to subscribe.
Construction impacts
There will be excavation equipment, heavy machinery, and vehicles in the area. Our crews and contractors will minimise any disruptions as much as possible.
Thank you
We appreciate your patience throughout this work, and apologise for any inconvenience.
