New underground high voltage powerline in Tonsley, Bedford Park
What we’re doing
We're constructing a new high voltage powerline to the Flinders Medical Centre to support their electricity security.
Our civil work (trenching) will start 12 October, and we expect our work will be completed by 18 December 2025.
How this affects you
We have two stages of work (north and south of the Southern Expressway / Main South Road), that will be undertaken at the same time.
The majority of our work will be done at night between 8pm and 5am due to impacts on State-managed roads: Sturt Road and Main South Road.
We will operate from Sunday night to Thursday night (no work Friday or Saturday nights).
Stage 1 work
We will be trenching from 358 - 364 Sturt Road, Tonsley along the residential (North) side of the road and then move into the median strip for further trenching to the Main South Road intersection. We will be replacing the Stobie pole at number 358.
We will reinstate roads, footpaths and the median strip on completion of our work. The final result will look similar to today.
Stage 2 work
Our work on the southern side will start at South Road then continue along Sturt Road going into the corner of Flinders Drive to the Hospital.
We will maintain access for ambulances as well as public buses.

To undertake the work safely we will have lane closures with traffic safety management on site. Please plan for short delays if you travel this route. Roads will be open during the day with slower speeds posted when we have road plates in the area. We need floodlights for safety and some of our vehicles will also have flashing lights. There may be several heavy vehicles on site at any time.
Where possible, our crews will try to complete the noisiest part of the work before midnight each night.
Our crews and contractors will minimise impacts as much as possible, however we apologise for any disruption and inconvenience.
