11,000 Volt powerline upgrade - Ridleyton

What we’re doing

We're replacing a section of high voltage powerline to maintain power reliability and ensure we can meet increasing local electricity demand. The work will be in Paget Street from the Wood Avenue intersection, then along Blight Street to number 42.

How this affects you

Our civil contractor completed works in August which included laying the foundations for two new Stobie poles we will install on Blight Street - the corner of Hawker Street replacing an existing pole (no art work) and at number 42.

Our powerline work starts from 10 September including installing two new Stobie poles and replacing the targeted overhead powerlines. Our crews will be on site Mondays to Fridays, mainly working during the day between 8am and 3pm, with one job overnight Thursday 18 September between 9pm and 5am Friday. We expect project completion by the end of October 2025.

For the safety of our crews, traffic management will be in place along Blight, Hawker and Paget Streets when our work is in progress. This will include reduced speeds, temporary road closures and detours. While we may temporarily obstruct some driveways, our crews and contractors will communicate directly with affected residents to assist with moving vehicles in and out as needed.

Power outages

Some customers will experience up to three power outages during this period. We will be notifying affected customers from today (4 September) via SMS and email, and send reminders closer to each date. We will post cards to customers who are not subscribed for our free SMS/ email notification service two weeks prior to each outage at which time the outage map will also be published on our website, noting there may be delays in the postal service.

If you do not already receive free notifications about your power, you can sign up for updates via our website, or call us on 13 12 61 for assistance. You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from your electricity bill to subscribe.

Construction impacts

There will be noise, vibration, flood lights, flashing lights and possibly dust associated with this work from excavation equipment, and other heavy machinery and vehicles. Our crews and contractors will minimise impacts as much as possible, particularly during the night works.

We apologise for any inconvenience, and thank you in advance for your patience throughout the work.
