Underground power extension along Adelaide Road, Mount Barker

What we’re doing
We're installing new underground cables to maintain power reliability and ensure we can meet increasing local electricity demand.
How this affects you
Our contractor Fleurieu Subsurface will be working along and across Adelaide Road and Pridmore Terrace to identify underground utility and service locations.
They will be using ‘vacuum excavation’ methods which is less disruptive to underground services, however is very noisy. This work will be at night as we can only get permits to work on Adelaide Road outside peak traffic periods. We apologise in advance to those who live nearby and may experience some disruption.
The work will be completed between Monday 1 December and Thursday 4 December 2025 between 7pm and 5am. We will try to complete the noisiest part of the work before midnight each night.
There will be no power outages during these works.
Our civil works will start in January 2026, which includes trenching along and across Pridmore Terrace and Adelaide Road (stage 2). Our powerline crews will install the underground cable along Adelaide Road and install a new pole on Pridmore Terrace between April and July 2026.
Traffic management
Traffic management will be in place while our crews are working. Temporary speed limits, lane closures, partial road closures, and possible detours will be in place for the safety of workers, road users and pedestrians. We will minimise disruption as much as possible and appreciate the continued patience and support of our local community and visitors affected by this work.
Power outages
We will notify in advance of any power outages that may affect some customers in stage 2 next year.
We encourage anyone not already subscribed to sign up for updates using the National Meter Identifier (NMI) found on your electricity bill.
Subscribing is a helpful way to receive updates related to planned and unplanned power outages, as well as other disruptions such as night works or noise.
