Retailer Temporary Isolations

What is a Retailer Temporary Isolation?

A Retailer Temporary Isolation (RTI) is when your electricity retailer asks SA Power Networks to temporarily disconnect your property from the network.

This is usually needed when your retailer’s meter provider is completing metering work, such as installing or upgrading your electricity meter. Once their work is done, we reconnect your property back to the network.

When does this happen?

Your retailer will send a service order to SA Power Networks. From there:

  1. We assess the request – Our team reviews the work and scopes the requirements.
  2. We book the work date – We notify your retailer when the isolation will occur.
  3. Your retailer completes their work – During this time, power to your property is disconnected. You don’t need to be home, but we’ll need safe access to your meter board and main switch (these can be located inside your property, often when you are in a unit complex). Please make sure gates are unlocked and pets are secured.
  4. We reconnect your supply – Once your retailer’s work is complete, we restore your power.

How will I be notified?

Your electricity retailer, as the initiator, will confirm when the work is scheduled and act as your main point of contact.

SA Power Networks will send planned-outage notifications for your job where we have your mobile number or email address.

How long does it take?

Allow up to three weeks from when SA Power Networks receives the service order from your retailer for the isolation to be scheduled.

What do I need to do?

You don’t need to contact SA Power Networks directly. Your retailer manages the process and will keep you informed. Just make sure of the following:

  • There’s safe, clear access to your meter board and main switch.
  • Any locked gates are open.
  • Pets are secured away from the work area.

Need more information?
