Notification of drone operations
Tantanoola to Kongorong area
29th and 30th July - Overnight flying
31st July - Daytime flying
SA Power Networks is now the first Aussie utility authorised by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for long-range night time drone operations, also known as BVLoS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight). This innovation is part of our commitment to a world-leading energy transition, adapting to lower daytime loads on our network.
By conducting thermographic inspections at night, we're able to monitor our network for faults or failing equipment at the best possible times without disrupting our customers. The image above shows how these operations allow us to spot potential issues before they escalate. The bright orange spot? That’s a potential fault we're investigating to ensure the network remains safe and reliable.
So, if you're in the Tantanoola to Kongorong area and spot some unusual lights in the sky next Monday and Tuesday evening, don’t worry—it’s just us delivering a safe and reliable power supply.
Livestock Owners Please Note: we are using a thermographic camera and have procedures in place to monitor movement, and will immediately clear the area if we see any animals distressed by our presence.
