Undergrounding of powerlines in Bay Road, Moonta

August 2024 – December 2024

What we are doing

SA Power Networks is working with the Copper Coast Council to underground powerlines along Bay Road from Caroline Street to Bartlett Street. We are proud to partner with local and State government in beautifying significant areas through councils’ streetscaping initiatives.

Work includes undergrounding approximately 600m of existing overhead powerlines and the removal of 30 Stobie poles and installing four new Stobie poles.

This work will also involve the installation of new public lighting columns on Bay Road and the installation of new energy-efficient LED lighting.

How this affects you

Most of our work will be completed during daylight hours, between Monday and Friday however there may be occasional work on weekends.

The civil work phase is currently being completed by Council and their civil contractor is scheduled to end in Mid-August 2024, followed by cable installation in September 2024, and then the removal of overhead powerlines and Stobie poles anticipated for October/November 2024. We anticipate completing our work by December this year.

To ensure the safety of our workers and the community, traffic management measures will be implemented along Bay Road. We will maintain access to businesses using road plates and stop/go traffic management. Speed restrictions and parking limitations will also be in effect in the vicinity of the works.

We will coordinate with public transport services to ensure clear signage of any changes to bus stop locations is in place in advance of the disruption.

There may be intermittent restrictions to driveway access throughout our work. Our crews and traffic management team will work closely with those affected to minimise any inconvenience.

Private electricity connections
All private electricity connections within the project boundaries will need to be altered as part of the project to enable connection to the new underground electricity system prior to the existing overhead Stobie poles and connections being removed.

The alteration work will typically involve either, replacing the existing overhead power supply to your property with an underground power supply, or alternatively, connecting your existing underground electrical supply to the new SA Power Networks system. Excavation work within your property maybe required to install a new cable from your electrical main switch board to the front boundary of your property, this work is scheduled to start in early August and end in September 2024, followed by electrical cable installation in September and October. There is no cost to customers for this work, our contractor Distro-Tex will be in contact with all affected customers within the project boundaries to advise of the works required (including re-instatements after any excavation) and timings.

Work hours and dates may vary due to weather conditions or unforeseen events outside of our control.

Power outages
Some customers will experience power outages during this work; we typically send notification to those affected via SMS/ email (if subscribed for the digital service) two weeks before the work. We send letters to unsubscribed customers, however there may be delays with the postal service.

If you do not already receive free SMS/email updates about your power, you can sign up for outage alerts, or call us on 13 12 61 for assistance. You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) from your electricity bill to subscribe.

Noise
There will be noise, dust and vibration associated with the work from excavation equipment and other heavy vehicles, however our crews will reduce disruption as much as possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation during this essential work.
