Myponga to Yankalilla Fibre Optic Cable installation
November 2023 - January 2024
What we are doing
We are installing a new fibre optic cable that will run from our substation in Myponga to Yankalilla substation. This upgrade is a crucial step in improving our ability to remotely manage our network devices ensuring power reliability in your area and reduced timeframes to respond to power outages.
How this affects you
Work will begin from Monday 13 November 2023 and continue until the end January 2024.
Construction activities will generally take place between 8am and 5pm between Monday and Friday each week and every second weekend.
Stage 1: 13 November to early December
Our crews will be using light vehicles and elevated work platforms to install fibre optic cables on existing poles and infrastructure.
Stage 2: December to January
Our crews may return if additional cable installation is needed across our existing 11,000 Volt network. If this is required, some customers may experience a power interruption and we will notify you, usually providing two weeks’ notice.
Our work will be carried out progressively, starting from the Myponga Substation and moving towards the Yankalilla Substation.
Work hours and project dates may vary slightly due to weather, or other events outside of our control.
We expect power interruptions will be necessary for some customers; and we encourage anyone with a National Meter Identifier (NMI) on their electricity bill to subscribe for free notification of power outages and future events. Please call us if you need help with this process.
Our crews will minimise disruption as much as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation during this essential work.
