A year of resilience among increasing cyber threats, more-complex incidents and an approach to cyber that earnt us accolades - these are some of the highlights featured in our 2024 Cyber Security Annual Report.

As a critical infrastructure organisation, cyber criminal activity poses a significant and growing threat to us and, ultimately, our customers. To stay ahead of these threats and keep the lights on for South Australians, our cyber security needs to constantly evolve.

That applies whether we’re monitoring global threats, responding to incidents, strengthening our systems and processes, equipping our people with the latest knowledge and skills, building industry networks... and all the other things the Cyber Security team does to protect our organisation and its people.

In 2024, our focus was on our ‘year of resilience’ – building organisational awareness and our cyber security culture, testing and optimising our cyber resilience and preparedness, and developing a comprehensive and robust strategy to guide our work for the years ahead.

Our recently released 2024 Cyber Security Annual Report outlines how we did this, along with the threats we faced, incidents we dealt with and more.

“The annual report is designed to give our people a look at what we do in Cyber Security not only to protect our organisation but also to equip our people to be safe online. I encourage everyone to grab a copy and have a look through it,” Cyber Risk and IT Resilience Manager Alex Duffy said.

In 2024, we experienced:

  • Incidents increased by 247%, with 1314 hours spent remediating them
  • Malware and business email compromise attacks almost doubled from 2023 (we blocked a combined 15,000 of these)
  • Seven IT resilience exercises were conducted with more than 64 people across our business
  • We stopped breaches occurring by blocking:
    • more than 19,366,000 access attempts or hits to malicious sites
    • more than 300,000 web app attacks
    • 416 attacks
