The generosity of employees at local energy distributor, SA Power Networks and Enerven, has reached a significant milestone with more than $6 million donated to SA charities since 2006.
Through the company’s Employee Foundation, employees have supported hundreds of charities and positively impacted the lives of South Australians across the state, largely through regular payroll donations, in addition to organised fundraising activities and hands-on volunteering.
Last year alone, more than $600,000 was donated through the Foundation - shared among 47 charities in support of SA communities - and undertook more than 1,500 hours of volunteering.
Employee Foundation Executive Officer, Isabell Al-Nahat, said the ongoing generosity of employees was inspiring at a time when many charities and members of the community are needing more support.
“Supporting SA communities is part of our DNA, it’s what we do every day - and helping more people through our Employee Foundation is an extension of that,” Ms Al-Nahat said.
“This year has been the most successful chapter in the Employee Foundation’s history. We’ve seen a consistent rise in the number of payroll donors and employee-led fundraisers, a testament to the growing commitment amongst our staff to give back to our communities and people doing it tough."
“The impact our employees have had on countless lives in the SA community across this time is inspiring. Our employees have a significant role in deciding which causes we will support and are then absolutely amazing in the way they support communities through fundraising and volunteering."
“We support charities across a variety of areas including homelessness, disadvantaged youth, mental health, LGBTQIA+, domestic violence and cancer."
“As a large employer in South Australia, sadly we often see very personal connections to causes and sometimes the support of our employees comes full circle. For example, one of our long-term employees and her daughter were supported by the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation – a long-term charity partner - including the opportunity to stay at the Laklinyeri Beach House, a respite home specifically designed for medically complex and terminally ill children and their families."
“Volunteering has also played a crucial role with hundreds of our staff volunteering across the South Australian community, through organisations such as Hutt St Centre and Backpacks 4 SA Kids.”
Major charities supported by the Foundation over the past year have included Hutt St Centre, Zahra Foundation, Backpacks 4 SA Kids, Childhood Cancer Association, Guide Dogs SA/NT and Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.
