Meet Cyril our Community Response Vehicle 608 x 406

We're excited to introduce Cyril, South Australia's very first Community Response Vehicle (CRV).

Chosen with your input, Cyril honours James Cyril Stobie, the inventor of the iconic Stobie pole. It’s a name that celebrates our history while looking ahead to the future — a future where communities have extra support during outages and emergencies.

More than a vehicle

Cyril isn’t just another truck on the road. It’s being designed as a trusted companion for South Australians when the power goes out. A place where you can recharge, reconnect and get the latest updates.

When storms hit or outages drag on, Cyril will help keep you connected, informed, and supported.

Shaped by your feedback

Earlier this year, we asked you what would make the biggest difference during an outage — and you told us that Cyril should include:

  • Charging stations so you can keep phones and devices powered up.
  • Wi-Fi and mobile coverage support to stay online when networks are down.
  • Reliable updates to help you plan and stay safe.
  • Even a place to grab a hot drink and connect with others during longer outages.

This feedback means Cyril is being built around what matters most to you.

Out and about with Cyril

You’ll see Cyril on the road in 2026 in two ways:

  • During major outages — offering practical help and a central hub of information.
  • At community events like Field Days and Shows — where you can step inside, explore its features, and see how it’s designed to support you.
  • Once built, Cyril will become a familiar and reliable presence in communities across South Australia.

What’s next

Cyril is currently in development and is expected to be ready for action by mid-2026. Over the coming months, we’ll share updates as the vehicle takes shape, from build through to hitting the road.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas, feedback and votes. Together, we’ve created more than a vehicle — we’ve created Cyril, a Community Response Vehicle designed with South Australians, for South Australians.
