Consumer Energy Resource Compliance for Small-Embedded Generation 2026

Service provision update web news hero 905 x 428

Since 2022, SA Power Networks CER Compliance program has uplifted compliance rates for small-embedded generation (SEG) sites from ~40% to 90%, with a focus on close out of applications in the Portal, Flexible Exports registration and capability testing, and export limit testing for static sites. With 2026 seeing the rollout of smart meters across SA, and a compliance framework developed by the National CER Technical Regulator, our attention again turns to compliance to ensure we are maintaining a safe and reliable network for our customers.

In 2026 we will be focusing on like-for-like replacements, industry roles and responsibilities, and customer education and notification, as well as undertaking further investigation on non-compliance to volt-var settings, and legacy sites. In addition to these key focus areas, SA Power Networks is reviewing the threshold between SEG and MEG, which is currently at 30kVA, with a view to increase the SEG threshold if feasible, to enable further renewable energy adoption for customers as batteries and electric vehicles become more prevalent in the market.

What do you need to do?

  • Continue to follow the Installer Checklist for installing compliant sites
  • Make sure inverter region settings are set to ‘Australia’ every time
  • Ensure you are following the TS129 definition of a like for like warranty replacement
  • Continue to review and fix your non-compliant sites in the Portal
  • Keep your eye on the Fuse for further updates

As we progress with our compliance focus for the year, we will continue to keep you informed with updates to the Fuse and process changes and impacts via a Notice to Industry release. Support materials, as always, will be added to our CER Compliance webpage.
