Large business generation tariffs (network charges)
What is considered a large business generation customer?
Large business generation customers are those with an annual energy consumption of more than 160,000 kWh and whose predominate purpose is to export energy, e.g. a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
A large business customer may have a BESS connected to their operations to reduce total energy drawn from the network, however a generation tariff would not apply to this customer.
What are generation demand tariffs for large businesses?
Like demand tariffs for large business, the charging parameters are the same with both an Anytime and Peak Demand charge. The locational peak signal of CBD and Rest of SA is also the same. The main difference between large business consumption tariffs and generation tariffs is that generation tariffs have no usage charges (kWh).
Connection voltages
The connection voltage will have an impact on the tariff available. A large business can be connected at different voltages. Find more information about common connection voltages below:
Typically at 415V from one or more distribution transformers (a large LV business). There are more than 4,400 large business customers connected at LV.
Typically at 11kV from a powerline feeder (an HV business). There are approx. 180 large business customers connected at HV.
From either a 33kV or 66kV powerline feeder and/or a transmission exit bus bar.
Frequently asked questions
In 2025-30 there are no tariffs on the export of energy for large business generation tariffs. Export tariffs only apply to those customers with the ability to export up to 30kW.
