Powerline upgrades in West Croydon

Monday 3 March 2026

What we are doing

We’re carrying out work in West Croydon during March and April to maintain power reliability and to meet growing electricity needs.

We will be installing new high voltage powerlines from the corner of Malcolm Street and Amy Street to the boundary of 27 and 29 Amy Street, where we will replace the Stobie pole and install a new transformer.

The height of each Stobie pole in this section of Amy Street will be raised to carry the new high voltage powerlines, and the existing low voltage powerlines will be replaced. The work includes replacing the Stobie poles at the southern corner of the Garnet Street and Amy Street intersection, and at 19/21 Amy Street.

How this affects you

Wednesday 4 March: Remove a climbing plant from around a pole on Amy Street to ensure safe access for upcoming works.

Wednesday 11 March: Remove the existing low voltage powerline on Garnet Street between Amy Street and Phillip Street; replace the powerline that crosses Phillip Street at the corner of Garnet Street with new aerial bundled cable (ABC). ABC looks like twisted liquorice and helps protect the powerline from trees, wildlife and other environmental impacts. Reducing the risk of power outages.

Tuesday 17 March: replace three Stobie poles:

  • Southern corner of Garnet Street and Amy Street intersection,
  • The boundary of 27 and 29 Amy Street, and
  • The boundary of 19 and 21 Amy Street.

Tuesday 31 March: replace the existing low voltage powerlines from 19 Amy Street to the Malcolm Street. Please ensure that the area is clear of vehicles and obstructions on this day. This helps us do our work safely and protects your property from accidental damage.

Monday 13 April: install the new high voltage powerlines and transformers. We would appreciate you keeping Amy Street clear of parked vehicles between Malcolm Street and Garnet Street.

All works will be completed between Monday and Friday between 8am and 3pm.

Our contractor Tron Civil Contracting has installed new pole footings and will help with the removal of existing Stobie poles on Tuesday 17 March. They will be using ‘vacuum excavation’ methods which is less disruptive to underground services, however may be very noisy at times.

Consumer services currently supplied by the existing overhead powerlines will be reconnected to the new overhead network where required. If your property is affected, Sutton Electrical, a Registered Electrical Contractor working on our behalf, will contact you directly to discuss any changes to your connection. They will work with you to arrange access and schedule the work at a convenient time. There is no charge to customers for this work.

Traffic management

Traffic management will be in place while our crews and contractors are working with temporary speed limits, and signposted partial road closures, or detours for the safety of workers, road users and pedestrians. We will maintain driveway access for residents. If you need assistance, please ask our traffic safety team.

We will work to minimise disruption as much as possible and appreciate the understanding of those affected by this work.
