Notification of Works
Onkaparinga Hills, McLaren Flat, McLaren Vale, Willunga
August – November 2024
What we’re doing
We are upgrading 13km of the 66-kilovolt (kV) subtransmission powerline between Morphett Vale East and Willunga.
This project will help meet the increasing power demand in the area, while ensuring a reliable and flexible power supply.
Most work will be along the roadway where the current powerline exists. The work includes installing new Stobie pole and footings, upgrading the overhead powerline, and removing redundant Stobie poles and powerlines.
How this affects you
In early August, civil teams will begin pole foundation work on Amery and Foggo Roads and progress south along Strout Road towards the Willunga substation. Poles will be installed from mid-August through September, with overhead powerline work starting in late August and continuing until the end of November. This work will start near Chapel Hill Road and head towards the Willunga substation on Edwards Road.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of November.
We may need to install new gates to enable heavy vehicle access to equipment on private property. On some properties, we may also need to widen tracks or create a pad or flat area to position our cranes and elevated platforms. We will contact any affected customers in advance of this.
Most work will be conducted during daylight hours, and some may occur on weekends. Project timelines may change due to unforeseen events.
Safety
Reduced speed and traffic management measures will be in place while our crews are on site, with clearly signed detours.
Safe pedestrian access will remain available throughout all work.
Tree trimming
Our contractor, Active Tree Services will be trimming trees on public land in a few isolated location along Amery, Foggo and Strout Roads. This will allow our workers, elevated work platforms, and cranes clear access to the poles and powerlines. Our team will contact any property owners if we need to trim trees on private property.
Power outages
Some customers may experience power outages during this phase of the work. We generally provide two weeks’ notice of scheduled outages. We recommend if you do not already receive free SMS/ email updates about your power, you can sign up for outage alerts via our website, or call us for assistance. Our digital updates are sent for planned and unplanned power outages.
You need the National Meter Identifier (NMI) on your electricity bill to subscribe.
Nuisance
There will be dust, vibration and noise from our work from the operation of heavy machinery and vehicles. Our crews will minimise these disruptions as much as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience you may experience and thank you in advance for your patience during this important work.
