SA Power Networks named a top graduate employer

SA Power Networks graduate program participants News item hero

SA Power Networks has been named among Australia's top graduate employers.

The timing of the recognition couldn’t be better as SA Power Networks will soon open applications for engineering and IT graduates to apply to be part of its 2024 paid graduate development program.

SA Power Networks is among only three SA-headquartered businesses in the top-75 list issued by the Australian Association of Graduate Employers. SA Power Networks was ranked 27th – the highest of any regulated energy distributor in Australia.

The aim of the Top Graduate Employers list is to recognise those organisations that provide the most positive experience for their new graduates as determined by graduates themselves.

About SA Power Networks

SA Power Networks manages the distribution network that delivers electricity to about 1.7 million South Australians and is spearheading South Australia’s rapid transition to a net-100% renewable energy system.

The business is recognised nationally for its pioneering role in transitioning the network to support customers investing in energy resources such as solar panels, batteries and electric vehicles.

A number of innovations developed by SA Power Networks are being replicated as other Australian States seek to tackle the issues already emerging in our State as SA leads the world in its transition to a net-100% renewable energy system with world-leading levels of solar penetration.

Our Graduate Program

A total of 22 graduates have just commenced in SA Power Networks’ 2023 intake, undertaking a comprehensive induction program.

“There could not be a better time to commence a graduate program with us,” said Head of Corporate Affairs, Paul Roberts. “We are at the leading edge internationally in managing this transition and are focused on innovation that provides benefits for customers and our community.

“In March, we will commence a targeted promotional campaign for our next graduate intake in 2024.”  Applications for the 2024 intake close 30 April 2023.

“Almost of all of the graduates who have gone through our program have stayed on with us to carve out a career in electricity distribution,” Mr Roberts said.

“Our graduates tell us that the number of rotations they have during the programs and their exposure to innovative projects give them a breadth of experience they simply can’t get anywhere else in South Australia.”

“Our high retention rate and low staff turnover overall, show that people in the business enjoy the work they do, the development opportunities that are provided and the strong and supportive culture we have,” Mr Roberts said.

About the Top Graduate Employers List

The aim of the Top Graduate Employers list is to recognise those organisations that provide the most positive experience for their new graduates as determined by the graduates themselves.

The Top Graduate Employers list was created from a survey of around 3,000 graduates conducted in late 2022. The survey participants are all current graduates and have up to 12 months of full-time experience with their organisation. They are asked to rate their employer on around 25 different categories including:

  • Orientation or induction program
  • Training and development program
  • Quality of work
  • Career progression
  • Support and guidance from supervisor, manager and HR
  • Access to mentoring and networking
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Work/life balance
  • The opportunity for community involvement
  • Company culture

The use of overall average ratings (subject to a minimum number of responses) results in a fair and objective list which does not discriminate against either small, medium or large organisations. The survey is conducted by the Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE), the peak industry body for the graduate recruitment and development market.
